Dr Hassanein is a senior consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Dubai Hospital, Dubai, UAE since 2014. He holds an Academic post of Senior Lecturer, and Associate Director for Postgraduate Diabetes Education, Cardiff University. UK since 2007and was appointed to the post of Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at BCUHB, UK, in 2002. Dr Hassanein graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria, Egypt. His main research interest is in the field of diabetes and Ramadan. He co-authored recommendations papers on this subject for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in 2005 and 2010, and for the British Medical Journal in 2010 as well as the IDF-DAR practical guidelines, 2016. Dr Hassanein has participated as the first author and/or a co-author in numerous studies in this field. He has published over 70 papers and has presented more than 50 oral presentations at national and international meetings.

Dr. De Alwis qualified with first class honours from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura ,Sri Lanka, and went on to train in general internal medicine in Colombo and was awarded an MD Medicine with a gold medal for Clinical Medicine. He worked as a lecturer in Medicine at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for five years. Dr De Alwis then moved to the UK on a Commonwealth Scholarship and completed a PhD in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obesity. He has authored many articles and text book chapters in this area as well as obesity and diabetes. He has also presented at invited talks on these subjects at several international and national conferences (UK). With his background of non alcoholic fatty liver disease, he was part of the NAFLD Research group at Newcastle University and Newcastle Hhspitals for several years. He has been involved in the diagnosis, guideline establishment, clinical management and clinical trials in the field of NAFLD and has published in international peer review journals. Over the last five years, while working as a consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology and a bariatric physician at City Hospitals Sunderland, UK, he set up and chaired the Tier 3 specialist weight management service. He was responsible for development of guidelines for medical management of patients undergoing bariatric surgery at this large bariatric centre in the UK and has trained other allied health professionals in the field. His subspecialist interests include the management of Post Gastric Bypass reactive Hypoglycaemia and other post-operative complications of Bariatric surgery as well as pre op medical optimization. Is a SCOPE Fellow and holds membership with the British Endocrine Society, Diabetes UK, BOMMS among other professional bodies. He was the Diabetes Research lead for the National Institute of Health Research Northeast region in the UK. He has also been actively involved in Medical student and junior doctor training in Sri Lanka and in the North East of England.

He has also held positions with the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society. • Prof. Norbert’s research interests include the pathophysiology of asthma and COPD and clinical intervention studies to improve the outcome of airways disease. • Prof. Norbert is a recipient of the TSANZ Medal, the APSR Medal and has received an Award of Merit from the European Respiratory Society. Dr. Nasser El Hindy is an experienced General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He had completed his higher training in general adult psychiatry and awarded his (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry from the UK. He was also awarded a diploma in Clinical Psychiatry (DCP) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. Dr. Nasser had also obtained a diploma in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (Dip. CBT) from Oxford College in 2012. He obtained his Master’s Degree (MSc) in Leadership and Management in Health Services with Commendation from Kingston University in the UK. Dr. Nasser has completed basic and higher training in Psychiatry in the UK and later he practiced as a consultant at the National Health Services, he managed to gain great experience at his clinical and academic education. Dr. Nasser was an approved Medical Educational Supervisor for higher trainees in General Adult Psychiatry in London, and was a clinical tutor and OSCE examiner for medical students at Bart’s and the London School of Medicine. He also participated in several research studies and gave numerous lectures on common topics in psychiatry. Dr. Nasser has a great deal of experience in managing common mental illnesses, neurodevelopmental disorders and severe and enduring mental illnesses including Bipolar Affective Disorder, Depression, Perinatal Psychiatry, Anxiety Disorders, and Psychotic illnesses. He has a special interest in Liaison Psychiatry, which involves assessing and managing patients with co-existing psychological and mental health conditions, Eating Disorders and Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Dr. Ahmad Jazzar comes with a vast experience of over 23 years in the field of Gastroenterology (Esophagus, Stomach, Small Intestine, Colon, Pancreas and Liver Diseases) and Interventional Endoscopy including Upper Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Small Bowel Enteroscopy, Video Capsule Endoscopy, Esophageal Manometry, Esophageal pH monitoring and Bariatric Endoscopy including Intragastric Balloon Placement. He graduated from The University of Aleppo, Faculty of Medicine in 1987. Dr Didem Torumkuney completed her BSc in biomedical sciences at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in Istanbul, Turkey in 1993 and went on to study for her M.Sc. in clinical microbiology at the Istanbul Medical Faculty. She continued her studies at the same school and received her Ph.D. in clinical microbiology in 2002, completing her thesis in collaboration with the Public Health England (formerly Health Protection Agency –HPA), Centre for Infections, London on the effect of environmental factors on growth, antibiotic resistance, plasmid and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis profiles of different bacteriophage types of Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium strains. During her Ph.D., Dr Torumkuney has gained three fellowships from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ESCMID) -Young Scientist Research Fellowship; Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) and the Scientific Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Following her PhD, Dr Torumkuney moved to the United Kingdom and worked for the Public Health England as a Clinical Scientist on two post-doctoral projects, first in the Food Safety Microbiology Laboratory on the “Development of the first real time PCR assay to detect Clostridium botulinum types A-E and Clostridium tetani neurotoxin gene fragments as an alternative to mouse bioassay” and then in the Virus Reference Department on a European Commission Project called VIRGIL which is the first-ever European surveillance network capable of addressing current and emerging anti-viral drugs resistance developments. In 2007, Dr Torumkuney joined GlaxoSmithKline as a Microbiology Advisor in the Medical Department where she led the Survey of Antibiotic Resistance (SOAR) studies in 18 countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Dr Torumkuney is currently Scientific Director for infectious diseases at GSK and is responsible for leading the SOAR studies, currently in over 30 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia, China, Commonwealth of independent States and Eastern Europe. She is also responsible for international medical education activities for antibiotics, including events and publications. Dr Torumkuney has published in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific congresses. She is a technical advisor to the Department of Health UK Fleming Fund Project. Also, she leads the ODI/Welcome Trust Open data sharing project. She is the member of SEDRIC and Epi-Net.
